How to find the motivation to exercise when you’re not feeling motivated:

Do you want to exercise but struggle when it comes to time to exercise, you lack the motivation to go. You know you should go and you will feel better from going, but you’re finding it difficult…

Acknowledge and understand why you’re lacking motivation:

  • Maybe you’re feeling burnt out or stressed from other areas of your life;
  • Maybe you’re bored with your current exercise routine;
  • Or you could simply be feeling unmotivated in general.

Set realistic goals:

  • Don’t set goals that are too ambitious or unrealistic, as this can lead to frustration and discouragement when you don’t achieve your goals;
  • Start with small, achievable goals and gradually increase them over time, even if it attending a class once a week.

Find an exercise routine that you enjoy:

  • If you’re not enjoying your workouts, it can be difficult to stay motivated – choose from a range of our classes to find what fits you best;
  • Experiment with different types of exercise until you find something you enjoy;
  • Consider trying group fitness classes or working out with a friend for added motivation and accountability (You Can Do Fit is a great way to make this work).

Use positive self-talk:

  • Instead of telling yourself that you can’t be bothered or are unmotivated, focus on the positive aspects of exercise and how it makes you feel;
  • Repeat positive affirmations to yourself before and during your workouts.

Create a schedule and stick to it:

  • Set aside specific times during the week for exercise and treat them as non-negotiable appointments with yourself;
  • Use a planner or app to help you stay on track and hold yourself accountable.

Reward yourself:

  • Set up a reward system for yourself, such as treating yourself to a favourite snack or activity after a certain number of workouts;
  • Celebrate your progress and accomplishments along the way.

Find a workout buddy or accountability partner:

  • Having someone to exercise with or check in with can be a great source of motivation;
  • Consider joining a fitness group or hiring a personal trainer for added accountability and support.
